Vertebrobasilar Artery Dissection – A Rare Cause of Stroke

Abstract


Basilar artery dissection with or without vertebral artery dissection is a rare lesion that can cause intracranial haemorrhage, infarct or mass lesion. We present a case of a middle-aged man with chronic occipital headache and acute hemiparesis. Non-contrasted CT brain shows ectatic right vertebral artery compressing the medulla oblongata and MRI shows acute pontine infarct caused by a basilar artery dissection.
